Employers Liability:
If you are a Company in the United Kingdom employing full, part time or temporary staff, you have a legal obligation to purchase Employers Liability Insurance. This will protect you against your legal liability to pay compensation to employees who are injured or fall ill arising out of their employment.
An example: An Employee suffers a cut hand whilst working in a Joinery workshop. Their solicitor writes to you and claims that the working environment was not safe and they are pursuing you for loss of earnings and a payment for pain and suffering.
Public Liability:
This will provide cover against your legal liability to pay compensation to third parties for accidental bodily injury or accidental damage to property. Annual premiums start at £78.75* for £1,000,000 worth of cover. (* includes 5% Government Insurance Premium Tax).
An example: A plumber accidentally puts a nail into a central heating pipe. The subsequent flood causes significant water damage.
Professional Indemnity:
This cover will protect a professional person (e.g. doctor, solicitor, accountant, IT consultant) against claims to pay damages and costs to those sustaining loss through a breach of professional duty.
An example: An IT consultant accidentally erases a client’s database causing costly repairs.
